Exterior

The 2012 Honda Civic is a handsome evolution of the previous design. Subtle changes to the grill and headlights give this Honda Civic a sleek new look! Sophisticated character lines complement the sides of the vehicle and a bold new brake light treatment highlights the rear of the vehicle. Some changes to the exterior, like the sharp ridge at the deck lid, was designed for managing airflow as much as it was for style. It’s changes like this that shows how much research went into making this vehicle not only stylish, but also more fuel-efficient!

Interior

The exterior changes to the 2012 Honda Civic are great, but the improvements to the interior of this vehicle are even better!  Honda now offers a whole new level of technological sophistication with the addition of the new I-MID system, which is standard in all LX and above models of the 2012 Civic. The I-MID system is designed to bring a greater degree of connection between people and their cars while helping to minimize distraction.

The I-MID system screen, which is located to the right of the gauges, displays audio system status, operational settings, a trip computer, and Bluetooth phone information1!  For Civic models with Navigation, the I-MID screen will display turn-by-turn directions to your destination. The I-MID’s audio display screen is particularly informative. It displays song, artist, album title, and even album art if the data is available. Functioning the I-MID system is easy with the new cleverly designed switches on the steering wheel of the vehicle.

The I-MID also allows for an unprecedented amount of personalization for Civic owners! You can customize the operation of door and window settings, headlight off timers, and more. You can even install your own wallpaper images on the I-MID screen!

The USB audio system is now available starting with the LX model. This offers you convenient hookup for iPods and other audio devices. Bluetooth, which was previously only available on Civic’s with navigation, is now available on all EX and above models! This Bluetooth technology gives you the ability to talk on your phone hands free and stream audio from your phone!2

The optional Navigation system has also has some fantastic improvements. Enhancements like FM traffic have been added, a feature that is usually only found in luxury vehicles! This shows updated traffic information on the moving map display. Plus, unlike some traffic services that other brands offer, this one comes at no additional charge!! That’s right, no subscription needed!

Fuel Efficiency

Featuring the widest array of engine choices available in its class, the 2012 Civic is designed to even better meet the diverse needs of the compact-vehicle buyer. The entire redesigned ninth-generation Civic lineup will become more fuel efficient with two models – the all-new Civic HF and the Civic Hybrid – each delivering fuel economy estimates of more than 40 mpg on the highway.

Built on the tradition of Honda fuel efficiency, the economical Civic HF model will be the most fuel-efficient gasoline-only powered Civic in the lineup when it launches this spring. Equipped with a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine, the Civic HF is targeted to earn EPA-estimated fuel economy3 of 41 mpg on the highway. The 2012 Civic Hybrid, which will be outfitted for the first time with a lithium-ion battery and a larger 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine, is expected to achieve an EPA-estimated city/highway combined fuel economy1 of 45 mpg, an improvement of 4 mpg compared to the current Civic Hybrid. Both the Civic HF and Civic Hybrid models will be equipped with aerodynamic components for improved efficiency and Honda ECO Assist™ technology, an innovation that can enhance efficient vehicle operation while providing feedback to promote more efficient individual driving styles.

"The Civic is the only model in the industry that can deliver on all fronts – fuel economy, sporty performance, smart packaging, alternative fuel and long-term value," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda Motor Co.,Inc. "For the ninth-generation Civic, we are emphasizing improved fuel economy across the board, from the hybrid sedan to the sporty Si model."

In addition to the Civic HF and Civic Hybrid models, the Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and Civic GX Natural Gas models are also estimated to achieve improved fuel economy compared to the current models. The Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe achieve an EPA-estimated fuel economy4 of 39 mpg on the highway, an improvement of 3 mpg when compared to the current model. The Civic Natural Gas vehicle is anticipated to earn a 7 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the current model. The Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and Civic Natural Gas models will all be equipped with the Honda ECO Assist technology.

Along with improved fuel economy, the new Civic lineup also delivers more performance, particularly with the Civic Si. The Civic Si sedan and coupe models will be equipped with a larger, more powerful 2.4-liter engine as well as a new 6-speed manual transmission. The new engine is anticipated to deliver 200 horsepower with 170 ft-lb of torque. Even with the larger engine and a 22 percent increase in torque, Civic Si is targeted to achieve an EPA-estimated highway fuel economy1 of 31 mpg; an increase of 2 mpg when compared to the current model.

Since fuel efficiency continues to increase in importance to consumers, the 2012 Honda Civic Sedan, Coupe, and HF all come standard with the ECO Assist Feedback system, which is a feature previously found only on hybrid models! By simply pressing the ECON button, the vehicle automatically reconfigures the throttle system, shift mapping, and climate control for greater operating efficiency.

Based on rigorous testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2012 Honda Civic is targeted to receive a Top Safety Pick Rating. In addition, the 2012 Civic is expected to receive a 5 star safety rating by the NHTSA.

To help keep you on course and away from danger, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA^®)5 helps sense oversteer or understeer, and then adjusts brake pressure at each wheel and/or reduces engine power to help restore driver control.

Standard 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), help you maintain control during hard braking. Properly inflated tires are crucial for safe operation, so the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)6 alerts the driver when a tire's pressure reaches a significantly low level.

The Civic has been engineered to help protect you and your passengers when a frontal collision just cannot be avoided. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute frontal crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle.

Standard front, front side and side curtain airbags help reduce the likelihood of injuries in a collision.

Civic Sedan Hybrid

The Civic Hybrid with Integrated Motor Assist IMA^® combines the brisk performance of a 1.5-liter, 8-valve, SOHC i-VTEC^® engine that has been refined for 2012 with many friction-reducing and airflow improvements with a high-output electric motor. Together this combo generates 110 hp. The Civic Hybrid also features a continuously variable transmission, which is an advanced transmission that substitutes the gears found in more traditional transmissions and replaces them with a metal push-belt running between a pair of variable-width pulleys. Weight-saving technologies, improved aerodynamics and engine modifications result in a new Civic with some impressive new EPA ratings. The 2012 Civic Hybrid now achieves an EPA estimated 44 city/44 highway mpg15. Plus, increased structural rigidity makes for more responsive handling.
